Miniature Steam-Train Update

Cockington Green - November 13, 2023
A combination of maintenance and upgrades mean that we are still not able to provide miniature steam-train rides on our beloved Mighty Mike for the foreseeable future. We are doing everything possible to minimise this delay in recommencing rides, but an enhanced experience awaits when operations once again start. As reported previously, earlier this year we commissioned the building of a new locomotive to enable increased ride capacity to avoid the disappointment of many visitors who were unable to take a ride during particularly busy periods such as school holidays and Floriade. Given the arrival of the new locomotive in the second half of 2024, it has been decided to undertake track upgrades now which are required to accommodate our exciting new locomotive. The new locomotive, yet to be named, will become a great add-on in support of Mighty Mike who has plied the existing track on his own for more than 30 years.   An interesting little fact is that Mighty Mike is estimated to have travelled over 100,000kms in that time. Upgrading the tracks for the new loco and installing a siding to enable Mighty Mike and the new loco to be alternated for operations as required is a big task.  Planning and preparations have commenced with physical works expected to commence shortly. It is recognized that the miniature steam-train is a very popular part of the Cockington Green Gardens experience, and we apologise for the ongoing inconvenience. We are very excited about getting the train(s) back on track as soon as possible.
