Timely handover for Canberra City Care

Cockington Green - March 27, 2019

There is never a bad time for small charity organizations to receive donations, but this year’s Canberra Day fundraiser organized by Cockington Green Gardens has been a timely event for Canberra City Care.

Cockington Green director and operations manager, Mark Sarah has handed over $3,000 to Canberra City Care’s operations manager, Danielle Bate. The money was part of the $6,000 raised from generous support received from the local community for that attraction’s annual gold coin entry Canberra Day fundraiser. Raw Potential Canberra also received $3,000 as part of the Canberra Day event.

“It makes it all worthwhile in seeing the genuine appreciation when we get to hand over the proceeds of our fundraising activities to local charities who are really making a difference in our community and supporting the less fortunate among us,” said Mark.

“Since we started our Canberra Day fundraiser in 2013 coinciding with Canberra’s Centenary, more than $30,000 has gone to local charities. We are able to use this Canberra-only public holiday by inviting locals to help themselves in taking advantage of some savings to visit the attraction and at the same time providing support to the needy and at-risk in our community. We see it as a win-win for everyone and it is growing in popularity,” Mark added.

For Canberra City Care who spend a lot of time through their Charnwood-based operating providing help at the coalface for those needing help, this year’s donation is going to assist at a time when they urgently require expensive replacement equipment to support their vital food service operations.

In receiving the money at the handover, Danielle Bate said, “This year’s donation came at the perfect time. We have just had a major piece of equipment which has reached the end of its life and must be replaced. We are extremely grateful for the wonderful and generous support from everyone at Cockington Green. It is just so lovely that a well-known local business like Cockington Green continues to think about the important work of local charities.”
