Canberra Day on Monday, 11th March presents local visitors to Cockington Green Gardens with a great opportunity to not only help themselves but importantly to make a difference to the lives of others.
This year’s Cockington Green Gardens Canberra Day charity fundraiser will see locals admitted to see the attraction for a gold coin donation per person. The proceeds of the day from the admission and other activities will be distributed to two wonderful local charities, Raw Potential Canberra (formerly Youth Care Canberra) and Canberra City Care.
Raw Potential Canberra does an enormous amount of work on the streets with at-risk disadvantaged young people (12-25 years old). It was founded more than 30 years ago by former ACT Supreme Court Chief Justice Terry Higgins AO with the support of a small group of other prominent Canberrans. Canberra City Care does some wonderful work through its five main services in providing practical help for people experiencing financial hardship.
This year, in addition to the gold coin entry donation, we are asking visitors to consider supporting Canberra City Care by bringing along a non-perishable food item to go into a collection bin to augment their HandUp Food Care service which helps needy families.
This is a great chance to visit one of Australia’s best known and most loved tourist attractions on what we hope will be a magical autumn day where you can not only help yourself, but you can do so much to help others in need. Enjoy the fantastic gardens, marvel at the detailed and interesting models, bring a picnic or buy a snack and take a miniature steam-train ride.
We look forward to seeing you on Canberra Day.
